On Sunday 4th October there's a Craft and Table-Top sale in Gilsland Village Hall from 10am - 4pm to raise funds for the Campaign to Open Gilsland Station (COGS) and the Methodist Church. There will be light lunches and afternoon teas for sale, entrance is only 50p. Anyone interested in selling crafts or taking a table should phone Shiela Rooney on 016977 47263. COGS is quietly confident that this is now a 'when' not 'if' campaign but it is essential to demonstrate that local people, businesses and visitors are supporting this initiative, keeping up the pressure on politicians and purse-sting holders to prioritise and progress the project.



Our neighbours in Scotland have managed to open not simply a single station but a whole 30 miles of track and seven stations!
The Borders Rail Waverly Line between Edinburgh and Tweedbank is the longest new domestic railway to be built in 100 years.
The Campaign for Borders Rail is now pushing for the line to be re-instated all the way to Carlisle, with a spur to Kielder en route. To support this initiative see: www.campaignforbordersrail.org



Waxcaps and Grassland Fungi of Hadrian's Wall

Join mycologist, Andy Mclay to discover why Hadrian's Wall is one of the most important locations nationally and internationally for waxcap species. In the morning we will find out how to identify different waxcap species and after lunch we will put our knowledge to the test in an outdoor practical field visit to Steel Rigg.

Meet at the Twice Brewed Inn for the morning session, starting at 10.30am.
Tea and coffee will be provided. Please wear warm clothes, waterproofs and suitable footwear and bring a packed lunch.

Restoring Ratty - Possible Water Vole Reintroduction at Kielder. A talk by Kelly Hollings from Northumberland Wildlife Trust at 7.30pm on Tuesday 13th October in Comrades Club, Haltwhistle. All welcome, £2 on the door.






The food sovereignty movement in the UK now has hundreds of projects thriving across the UK and the national gathering provides an opportunity to share successes and plan for the future.

Anyone can join for all, or part, of the four days of discussions, organising, skill sharing and action planning. There will be amazing food, visits to local projects and a chance to connect with people from all of the UK that share a passion for transforming our food systems.

Norman Carreck, a beekeeper from the age of 15, has written extensively on bees and is know to many apiarists as the brains behind the indispensable Bee Disease Identification Booklets.




Global People's Climate March - Newcastle, 29th November.
The crucial climate summit in Paris this December is fast approaching. It is imperative that a real deal be struck there (at long last) to place a legally-binding cap on greenhouse gas emissions and rapidly phase out the burning of fossil fuels. All over the world Climate Change campaigning groups are organizing marches to emphasize people's demands. Climate Change Action NE is planning an event in Newcastle on Sunday 29th November (the day before the summit opens).
Assembling in Princess Square, beside the City Library, from 1.30pm and marching at 2.00pm to an open air meeting at the Civic Centre.
We want you to help make this the biggest march that Newcastle and the North East has seen

Calling craftspeople and artists - there will be a Green Christmas fair in the Greenhead Hotel, in conjunction with the Farmers' Market on Sunday 13th December. Please make a note in your diary and contact sue@mosspeteral.com if you are interested in taking a stall. We're especially keen to promote original artwork and crafts utilising natural and recycled materials.
The Farmers' market in the village hall will feature the regular stalls and extras with seasonal specialities and foodie gifts.
